GMIS International Announces Annual Public Sector IT Awards

GMIS International recognizes public sector IT leaders at annual conference.

Atlanta, Georgia – August 4, 2010 – GMIS International is pleased to announce its 2010 public sector IT award winners. The awards were presented recently at the organization's conference in Atlanta, Georgia. The annual event was attended by over 100 public sector IT leaders and technology vendors, including international delegates from Canada, The Netherlands, and New Zealand.

Sherri Flynn, Systems Development Administrator from the City of Sparks, Nevada received the GMIS Outstanding Professional Award. This annual award recognizes IT professionals whose meritorious performance is representative of service delivery excellence in the public sector. Ms. Flynn was nominated by Rick Bareuther, IT Manager for the City of Sparks, Nevada. Mr. Bareuther states, "Sherri is the type of employee, the type of Systems Professional that any manager would love to have on their staff. She enjoys being challenged with the most complex projects. Her work ethic is outstanding and I feel most fortunate to have her as part of my team.”

Four members of GMIS International were officially recognized with Emeritus status in recognition of their long term contributions and dedication to the mission and goals of GMIS International. Bruce Miller, from Salt Lake City, Utah, Joe Turner, formerly of New Britain, Connecticut, Linda Curley, formerly of Monroe County, New York and Mary McLaughlin, formerly of Benton County, Iowa.

GMIS also recognized 9 members who graduated from the 2009-2010 Certified Government CIO Program at the School of Government, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. These public sector IT leaders represent local governments from 7 U.S. states. The 12 month, comprehensive educational program, with both face-to-face and online instructional components, is designed to enhance knowledge in critical areas of public sector IT leadership and management.

Newly elected President Johnny Walton congratulated this year's award winners, new Emeritus members, and CGCIO graduates and stated, "These members join a distinguished group of individuals who have been recognized by GMIS International for their contributions to GMIS, their organizations and their communities. It is inspiring, humbling, and gratifying to see colleagues who have accomplished so much.”
